This year’s Spring Fling has a special offering for those wanting to learn more about sustainable growing.
Foodscapes, described as an exposition festival, is showcasing sustainable growing and preserving, regenerative farming, and biodiversity over a weekend in late October.
The programme includes a wide variety of workshops demonstrations, short documentaries, and opportunity to engage in the field hands on.
Saturday 29 October is workshop day with eight workshops covering topics like: wool spinning and farming, two sessions on distilling (perfumes and medicinal), and preserving the harvest. Keynote speakers on Saturday’s programme include Angela Clifford - CEO Eat New Zealand, Dr David Bergin - Director of Environmental Restoration, Francesco Van Eerd - Creator of Fragrifert Perfumery, and Haana Wilcox - Kai Oranga teacher - Mataweka Marae.
Sunday is touring day in Otane and Waipawa, with six locations participating in the exploratory gardens and farm trail. Organisers promise an immersive experience: “Be prepared to get your hands dirty as you tour local regenerative farms, lavender gardens, marae to explore ancient traditions, and more interactive hands-on experience.”
