Purina advances partnerships for regenerative agriculture

Nestlé Purina PetCare Europe is advancing regenerative agriculture partnerships and programs across the European region. These efforts align with the company’s commitment to source 20% of key ingredients from farmers adopting regenerative agriculture practices by 2025, with a target of 50% by 2030.

Since 2020, over 450 farmers have joined Purina Europe-supported initiatives aimed at promoting practices like diversified crop rotation, cover crops, and reduced tillage. These methods contribute to restoring soil fertility, protecting water quality, reducing soil erosion, sequestering carbon, enhancing biodiversity, and improving the wellbeing of farming communities. Additionally, these projects are intended to strengthen the resilience of Purina’s ingredient sourcing.

In 2021, Purina France became the first pet food company to participate in the "Sols Vivants" program in partnership with the Earthworm Foundation, which supports farmers in implementing regenerative agriculture practices. To date, 250 cereal-producing farmers have joined this initiative.

Purina has also supported the Landscape Enterprise Networks (LENs), launched with 3Keel, to address core ecosystem functions such as carbon sequestration and biodiversity. In the United Kingdom, LENs programs have been supported since 2022 in collaboration with Nestlé UK, Nestlé Cereal Partners UK, and Anglian Water. Over 110 farmers are involved, focusing on improving soil health, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and enhancing water quality.

Programs in Italy, Hungary, and Poland further demonstrate Purina’s commitment to regenerating rural areas through LENs. Participation includes 57 farmers in Italy, 22 in Hungary, and 24 in Poland, showcasing the company’s dedication to fostering connections between businesses, society, and local communities.

Purina Europe plans to continue expanding its partnerships to transition toward a regenerative food system that prioritizes sustainability. Further details on Purina’s projects, including the Ocean Restoration Program, are available on the company’s website.
