A natural farming method used in Korea is being adopted in this Golden Bay Farm

Ellis Creek Farm in Golden Bay, near Abel Tasman National Park, combines history, sustainability, and innovation. Managed by Rose and Andy Williams, alongside Rose's brother Jonathan Thorpe, the family has farmed this fertile land since 1937.

Originally a dairy operation, the farm later shifted to sheep and now raises Angus beef, lamb, and produce, sold directly to the public. The animals graze on regenerative pastures, and Rose is enhancing the soil using the Korean Natural Farming method, inspired by Irish farmer Tom Stack. This technique enriches the land by harnessing native microorganisms.

Off-grid and steeped in history, the farm once housed the South Island's first winery. It now generates electricity via a pelton wheel powered by Ellis Creek. A newly installed micro-abattoir ensures humane and low-stress processing for their livestock.
